Information about our ministries: Altar Guild: The Altar Guild is a valued group that provides assistance throughout the Church year by helping prepare for communion, providing help with luncheons, fund raising for various projects, and assisting with the celebrations of the church year. Communion and Care Ministry: This ministry is an extension of the Lord's Supper to those that may be sick, homebound, or temporarily unable to be present to celebrate with our church family. Congregational Council: Our Congregational Council has 8 elected members. For 2010, our President is Alice Natale, Vice-President is John Shoemaker, and Financial Secretary is Karyl Blair. The Church Council meets the third Monday of every month. Congregational Life Ministry: This ministry assists the Pastor with special happenings such as hosting new member events, evening gatherings, funeral luncheons, and the Easter brunch. Building Committee: (Formerly - Facilities Planning & Development): Formed in 2005, this committee has the mission to "Plan and take the necessary action to modify, remodel, obtain or construct the facilities required to support and enhance the mission and ministry of Mount Cross Lutheran Church". Friends in Christ: Friends in Christ is a member of Beyond Limits (a non-denomination group of challenged adults who meet once a month). As a whole group, the members provide help throughout the community with such things as handing out plush lambs to seniors, providing support at the Easter Celebration, and putting together Christmas boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Friendship Club: Meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 12:00 noon in the LOMONA Center. This is a luncheon, Christian fellowship and social, often with a program. The Friendship Club supports several area activities and charities by providing funds. Global Missions: The purpose of this committee is to develop a visible avenue at Mount Cross for disciples to express their commitment to Global Mission in the Grand Canyon Synod and in our Companion Synods of Lithuania and Senegal. In May 2009 Mount Cross signed a covenant with the ELCA Global Mission to partially sponsor the Grow-Hanson family serving in Senegal, Africa. Library: Located in the Matthew/Mark room, Books and videos are available for check out from our church library. Stop by and see the many books we have to offer. Memorial Committee: This ministry disburses funds for needs of various committees throughout the year. Mission Endowment Fund: This ministry is committed to the faithful and efficient management of all financial gifts and bequests. The interest which accrues from these investments provides our means of furthering God's work through the church. It provides assistance for many purposes, but the primary aim is to assist in the continuing pursuit of Christian education. Click here for a pdf file explaining our mission. Mount Cross Cares: is an outreach ministry of Mount Cross Lutheran. Providing meals, fellowship and study time for those in our community who need a helping hand. Mutual Ministry Committee: This committee's mission is to affirm and strengthen the mission of the congregation and ministry of the staff. Our goal is to become an important link between members of our congregation, our church council, our Pastor, and all of the staff serving Mount Cross Lutheran Church. Outreach Ministry: This group assists with the many fund raisers throughout the Church year. Funds raised help with the Payson food bank, the ELCA Navajo Mission at Rock Point, Veteran's Helping Veterans, and various other agencies in Payson. Prayer Chain: This ministry is comprised of members of our congregation who faithfully pray for the requests that are received by our church office. New people are always welcome to join as Prayer Partners. Prayer Shawl Committee: This ministry is comprised of members of our congregation who knit or crochet prayer shawls for those of our members and friends of members who have had illness, who are grieving and for our service men and women. Prayers are offered for the recipients as committee members are knitting or crocheting the shawls. Property Committee: This committee provides weekly upkeep of our grounds and buildings. All are welcome to come and join us every Thursday morning at 8am. Scouts: Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts meet at Mount Cross Lutheran Church. The Boy Scouts have a full schedule of activities through the school year. Regular Troop meetings occur weekly on Mondays in the LOMONA Center. Cub Scouts meet bi-weekly at various locations, such as at the LOMONA Center or in the den mother's home. The Pack meets monthly in LOMONA. The Venture Crew is made up of boys and girls whose ages range from 14 - 21 years. Spiritual Growth Committee: It is our Pastor's desire that our church family grow in faith and discipleship. We have an exciting ministry at Mount Cross Lutheran Church. Evangelism is ready to take quantum leaps forward, and we will be taking definitive steps to approach families who need a church home. Stewardship Committee: Graceful Living-Graceful Giving goes beyond budgets and building needs. It is a values-based decision with regard to one's faith and one's personal relationship with God, the Father, Jesus Christ, our personal savior and the Holy Spirit, our spiritual Counselor. WELCA: The Women of the ELCA provide programs to involve women in the congregation. All women of Mount Cross are automatically a part of WELCA. We try to provide one social event per quarter. Our primary outreach is quilting. We send delegates to the annual Synod WELCA conventions and we send donated goods to this convention to complete kits to give to women who are recent refugees from war-torn areas. Worship and Music Committee: This committee meets quarterly, or on an as needed basis. This committee provides support for our varied music programs and related events, including Ecumenical, Advent, Lenten, Christmas, wedding and funeral services. Currently our choirs are: Chancel Choir - rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm, September through May; and sings at the 8:30am traditional service and at special services September through May. Mount Cross Bells - rehearses on Thursday evenings at 6:00pm, and plays at the 8:30 and 10:30am services once a month September through May; SummerChoir - rehearses at 8:00am before the 8:30am service, June, July, August; Praise Team - rehearses on Wednesdays at 6:00pm, and leads worship at 10:30am every Sunday year-round and for special services; Praise Band - rehearses at 6:00pm on the Wednesday evening prior to the last Sunday of the month and plays at the 10:30 service the last Sunday of each month.
